Dorothea Lange

Updated: May 12, 2019

Since looking more into photographers and the different style that they all possess, I came across a photographer by the name of Dorothea Lange. She was a documentary photographer and photojournalist from America. Lange was born on the 26th of May 1895 in Hoboken, New Jersey, United States.

After researching more about Lange and her specific style of photographs, I became engrossed in the idea of documentary photography and I have since been looking at other photographers such as: Henri Cartier-Bresson, Eugène Atget, Walker Evans and many more.

I don’t know what it is, but I am so fascinated by the way that these photographers were able to capture such tragic moments but in a graceful and beautiful way. I feel as though Lange was particularly good at capturing the innocence of the many people she photographed and the pain that they were in and I admire how she could show this through her photography. I cannot wait to delve deeper into their subject matter and become immersed in the stories and lives of the people photographed.

“While there is perhaps a province in which the photograph can tell us nothing more than what we see with our own eyes, there is another in which it proves to us how little our eyes permit us to see.” ― Dorothea Lange
